This set includes a bright yellow fob advertising the “400” Club, plus a vintage domino from our collection.
+ The story
Clif works the door at the 400 Club on weekends. Although it doesn’t amount to much, either money or stress. In the warmer months they make him sit on his wooden stool outside the door to check IDs with a little flashlight and try to keep underage kids from sneaking in, but when it gets cold he gets to sit inside and listen to the bands play. The cold months are the best because sometimes the bartender brings him whiskey in one of the styrofoam coffee cups and he gets to hear Laurie sing. She’s in one of the house bands, they do covers, mostly Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn, stuff like that. The one about punching a lady that the girls like to sing along to and the sad one that spells out divorce and makes the older guys want another beer. But at the end, the bar lets her play one of her own and that’s when Clif scoots his stool as close to the stage as he can without getting in trouble. One night while his eyes were watching Laurie’s and the way they shine out like spotlights into the crowd but never seemed to fall on him, his keys slipped out of his back pocket and got lost somewhere in the shuffle below. Kicked and crushed beneath the boots and heels of all the people who can dance.
