This set includes a blue Magic Carpet RV Center fob and a vintage domino from our collection.
+ The story
Dennis vaccuums the RVs every morning. He washes the windshields and empties the ashtrays in the sales room. Sometimes they have him fix a light switch or unclog a toilet, but for the most part once his morning routine is done, he’s free to sit in the maintenance office beside the boiler and bide his time. He started playing solitaire a few years back and has gotten good enough to be able to tell within just a few turns of the cards when he’s already lost.
He likes how big the sky looks on his drive home. Sometimes when he takes off his sunglasses, it’s still brighter out than he thought it was. On days like that he’ll pull over and find a park bench. Somewhere he can smoke a cigarette and watch the last bit of light slip behind the mountains. Eleven years ago now he’d moved to Billings because a friend in Tacoma told him there’d be work. The whole train ride he’d dreamt of riding horses and roping cattle but somehow ended up cleaning recreation vehicles in the same parking lot every day.
He realizes he’s been working his thumbnail into the blue fob and starts to pry at it. The ring gives a bit, but it won’t come apart. He rips his car keys free, and throws the rest into the tall grass, where it doesn’t make a sound.
